We are seeking a research assistant to work on a collaborative research project titled “Nanoparticle Reinforced Epoxy Composite with Enhanced Mechanical and Thermal Properties”. The project focuses on the enhancement of the mechanical and thermal properties of epoxy systems using metallic and composite additives and involves organic synthesis , epoxy composite preparation, physical-chemical characterization, and mechanical testing.

Students currently working towards a Master’s degree in the Mechanical or Chemical engineering (or Chemistry) are encouraged to apply. The RA position is for one year and with the possibility of extension for an additional one year. The start date is June 2018. 

 

Qualifications:

BS/MS in Chemistry or BE/ME in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering  

 

Duties:

• ​Modification of hardener and nanoparticle via organic chemistry,  epoxy composite preparation under various conditions, physical-chemical characterization of the chemicals and epoxy samples, mechanical testing of epoxy composites
• Mechanical testing
• Thermomechanical testing
• Microscopic analysis
