Automotive Minute: Porsche debuts refreshed 2019 Macan
A sportier, more-rounded Porsche Macan is on the horizon. An updated version of the compact SUV has been revealed, showcasing signature design elements of the recently updated Cayenne and Panamera.
The redesign comes on the heels of bumper Porsche AG sales. The company has sold 350,000 Macans since 2014 worldwide. Porsche Cars North America Inc., which has its headquarters in Atlanta, has seen a 6.7% rise in sales in 2018 versus the year previous. June represented the automaker’s sixth consecutive monthly sales record.
The Macan’s chassis has been fine-tuned to make it more performance focused. Porsche emphasizes that it also offers better stability than earlier Macan models and allows passengers to ride in more comfort. New 20- and 21-inch wheels are available.
At the front, the revised Macan will feature new LED headlamps whose design gives the appearance that the SUV is wider than before. At the rear, there is now a three-part, three-dimensional LED light strip, which you’ll also find on the Cayenne.
Inside, the Macan has gotten a remodel that upgrades it to the sporty look of the Porsche 911, complete with an optional GT sports steering wheel. A heated windscreen and an ionizer is available.
At the center of the dashboard is an 11-inch touch screen display that control’s the SUV’s infotainment and navigation functions. Porsche’s Connect Plus module keeps the Macan connected to the world around it allowing for real-time traffic information updates and the recording of off-road driving experiences.
New Traffic Jam Assist technology allows the vehicle to steer and accelerate/decelerate in crowded driving conditions without full driver interference.
Porsche is also boasting that the Macan is more customizable than ever before. New Miami Blue, Mamba Green Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic, and Crayon paint jobs are available. The SUV also has a number new interior packages for 2019.
Porsche North America is teasing that the 2019 Macan will be available in the U.S. next summer. North America-bound engine options and pricing will be announced closer to the SUV’s on-sale date.
