Title: Faculty Position in Probability and Statistics

The Department of Mathematics at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a tenure-track position in mathematics at the assistant professor level to begin August 15, 2019.

Only applicants holding a PhD and showing a strong commitment to teaching and research will be considered. The anticipated vacancy is in Probability and Statistics. Strong candidates in other areas of mathematics may be considered.

The appointment is for an initial period of four years. Visiting appointments at all ranks may be possible. The language of instruction is English.

There are 19 full-time professorial rank faculty in mathematics and about 120 students in the major. The Department offers programs leading to the Bachelor's and Master's degrees.  The Center for Advanced Mathematical Sciences at AUB, a few minutes' walking distance from the Department, also houses research activity in mathematics.  The Department offers a large service program in mathematics for the entire university, as in agriculture, business, economics, engineering, the natural sciences, and the Graduate Program in Computational Science.

AUB is a teaching-centered research university. Its mission is to enhance education, primarily for the people of the Middle East, and to participate in the advancement of knowledge. The beautiful campus is located on a hill in Beirut overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, with pleasant weather year-round.
